for between 1855-69, with 30in. browned damascus barrels signed in script on the top-rib 'JOHN MANTON AND SON DOVER STREET LONDON', engraved platinum plugs, bright border, scroll and gamescene engraved locks signed 'JNO. MANTON & SON', chequered walnut half-stock, brushed bright iron furniture, original ramrod; TOGETHER WITH its manufacturers mahogany storage case with inlet hook closure, lock and key, ring handle to the lid, the interior lined and compartmented in green baize and containing a number of period accessories including shot and powder flasks and a turn-screw, later in-line capper and a cleaning rod
Other Notes: This shotgun is mention in Neal and Back's book 'The Manton Supplement' as a 14-bore double barrelled shotgun with caplocks, 30in. barrels and featuring a trade label illustrated in plate 130 of the same volume. Coincidently, serial number 12253 is listed in the sister volume 'The Mantons, Gunmakers' as a similar gun but with 29in. barrels that was factory converted from new to breech-loading, once again indicating how late in production this particular gun is
