converted from an earlier percussion gun circa 1868, with octagonal to sixteen-sided to round damascus 31 1/4in. barrel, the top-flat with original partial makers signature (partly obscured and rubbed), flip-open breech with locking thumb-catch marked both 'SNIDER'S PATENT' and 'NEWARK'S PATENT, border and scroll engraved bar-action lock signed in an oval bordered panel 'THO'S JACKSON, EDWARDS ST.' behind an engraving of a feeding pheasants, chequered walnut pistol-grip half-stock, iron furniture (corroded) and moulded and relief carved horn fore-end tip with no provision for clearing rod
