A .300 (ROOK) FIELD'S 1883 PATENT SINGLE-BARRELLED ROOK & RABBIT RIFLE SIGNED I. HOLLIS & SONS, serial no. 164 / 0638,
circa 1885, 28in. black powder only ovate barrel with matted top flat and dolls-head extension, open sights and two folding leaf sights with white metal-inlaid sight lines, bead fore-sight, the breech end with a banner engraved 'I HOLLIS & SONS. LONDON', the left side engraved 'AMMUNITION 300', W. Field patent action, patent No. 2646 of 28th May 1883, manual side lever safety, border and acanthus scroll engraving, retaining races of original colour-hardening and finish, 14 3/8in. figured pistolgrip stock with horn pistolgrip-cap and engraved steel buttplate, Hackett patent snap fore-end with horn finial (minor losses), weight 5lb. 10oz., in its lightweight leather case
