circa 1830, with tapering iron unsighted brushed bright 9in. barrel, solid top-tang, bevel-edged lock with radiused and pointed tail, swan-necked cock, walnut full-stock, brass furniture including flat-heeled butt-cap with iron lanyard ring, no provision for ramrod, some corrosion patches and old repaired split behind lock
Provenance: The Prinz Frederik was a Dutch frigate, 2nd class, laid down at the navy yard at Rotterdam, Netherlands on 18 December 1830, finally being launched 29 June 1840. She was renamed Prins Frederik der Nederlanden in 1844, and returned to the navy yard at Amsterdam for rebuilding as a floating battery Salamander in 1859. Re-launched in 1860, became a training battery in 1867 and was finally towed to the navy yard at Willemsoord, Netherlands to be broken up. As a warship she displaced 1,461 metric tons (1,583 in service), had a sail area of 1,659 square metres, a crew numbering 320 men and an armament 44 guns. In her guise as a floating battery she displaced 1,125 tons, had a crew numbering 200 men and an armament of 22 guns (4-60pd guns and 18 20in. grenade guns)
