circa 1740, with banded tapering cannon-muzzled 5 1/4in. turn-off barrel (frozen), octagonal form breech signed on the underside 'SEGALAS LONDON', dove-tailed and screwed top-tang, boxlock side-hammer action of typical form with carved 'L' shaped frizzen spring, carved tear-drops to the smooth bag-shaped butt swelling at the pommel and fitted with a white-metal grotesque mask butt-cap, feather edged white-metal escutcheon at wrist and pierced sideplate in the form of a mythical serpent, applied trigger-guard bow with integral tang and finial, no provision for ramrod
