A SCARCE 12-BORE PINFIRE SLIDING DOUBLE-BARRELLED SPORTING-GUN, MODEL 'GHAYE'S PATENT', serial no. 5,
circa 1860, with fine damascus 29 3/4in. barrels sliding forwards on a fixed table, the top-rib signed in gilt 'LI GHAYE BREVETE A LIEGE', checker-board engraved action body with gold inlaid borderline, the top-tang further chisel carved with a fallen gamebird, en-suite back-action external hammer locks with chisel engraved bordered panels of hunting dogs, chequered walnut straight hand stock, iron heel-plate with gold borderlines, gold borderlined checker-board engraved furniture, the lower tang and the opening lever further engraved with panels of waterfowl, fully chequered walnut permanently attached splinter fore-end concealing the articulated barrel mechanism, the inside of the opening-lever mechanism marked 'L GHAYE' together with 'ACIER FONDU', much original finish throughout
