A CASED 16-BORE PERCUSSION SPORTING-GUN WITH ADDITIONAL PAIR OF 16-BORE RIFLE BARRELS, serial no's. 732,
for circa 1838-39, with 28in. twist-iron shot barrels and sighted 30in. rifled barrels, both signed on the top-flats 'ROSS EDINBURGH' in script, the rifle barrels with folding three-leaf rearsight and additional standing notch, scroll engraved rib-end to the shot barrels, colour hardened breech-blocks to the rifle barrel, platinum plugs to both sets, broad extra-long scroll engraved top-tang featuring an oval panel engraved with gamebirds, border and gamescene engraved back-action locks signed 'ROSS' below the fully dolphin engraved hammers (one nose chipped), walnut half-stock chequered and expertly repaired at the wrist, engraved iron heel-plate with long top-spur, the butt and rifle barrels with provision for sling and both barrel sets equipped with original ramrods, complete with their makers oak storage case, parchment label bearing the 9 South Street, Andrew Street address, line and compartmented in green baize and containing a Cogswell & Harrison signed oil bottle, a wad punch, nipple pot and period leather sling together with later cleaning apparatus
