A FINE AND IMPRESSIVE 8-BORE DOUBLE-BARRELLED SINGLE-TRIGGER SIDELOCK EJECTOR, serial no. 17758,
dated for January 1939, 27in. nitro barrels with narrow file-cut rib with flip-up leaf sight, the tubes engraved 'WILLIAM FORD. 4. PRICE STREET. (LATE. 15, ST. MARY'S ROW.) BIRMINGHAM. ENGLAND.', 3 1/2in. chambers, bored approx. full choke in both, large treble-grip action, automatic safety with gold-inlaid 'SAFE' detail, engraved with fine acanthus scrollwork surrounding vignettes of mallard on the right, the left with a tufted duck, the underside with a trio of duck, brushed finish, 14 1/2in. figured stock including buttplate, weight 10lbs. 13oz, in its makers canvas and leather case, the lid interior with original specification information and a letter from the makers dated February 1964
Provenance: The gun is listed as having been ordered in January 1939 for Langdon Williams Esq., as:
"...Side-lock hammerless ejector gun, treble-bite, spade head extension. 8-bore 3 1/2" chambers, nitro proved for 80 grains of Amberite & 2 1/4 ozs of shot. Barrels 27" long with narrow, flat, file-cut rib with a folding leaf back sight. Both barrels full choke. Nicely Engraved & finished & fitted with single trigger mechanism, the 'Baker' type as on your other guns."
The cost of the gun at the time was £85. 0. 0.
The letter from the makers dated 18th February 1964 states that "...We understood that this gun was for use in India, with crocodile as the main target."
