A .50 (C/F) SINGLE-SHOT SERVICE-RIFLE, MODEL '1870 TRAPDOOR', serial no. 49489,
for between 1870-72, with round 32 1/2in. barrel, block and blade fore-sight, folding ladder rear-sight, top of breech-block dated '1870' and marked with an eagle's head above crossed arrows and 'U.S', 'Allin' closure catch, plain top-tang, plain lock of civil war style dated 1863 on the tail and marked 'U.S. SPRINGFIELD', together with an eagle and shield device forwards of the hammer, walnut full-stock, iron furniture and flat-tipped jag-ended clearing-rod, some cleaning to iron surfaces with spotting and staining, 51 1/2in. overall, weight approximately 9lbs.
