circa 1860, 30in. nitro reproved damascus barrels, the rib engraved 'CHARLES LANCASTER. 151 NEW BOND ST. LONDON. PATENT BREECH LOADER', some external rusting and dents and internal pitting, Charles Lancaster patent slide-and-tilt action with rotary-underlever, non-rebounding back-action locks with high-spurred hammers of hare's-ear form, the breasts of the hammers hitting the strikers, large triggerguard, best bold acanthus scroll engraving, the lockplates with 'C. LANCASTER LONDON PATENT' in scrolling banners, the action bar with 'CHARLES LANCASTER'S PATENT', the triggerguard tang with three pheasants, light patination overall, 14 1/2in. stock including steel buttplate, the top tang engraved with hound flushing fowl, fore-end with crosspin release (damage to wood and key escutcheons, missing finial), weight 7lb. 6oz.
