for 1825, almost certainly early caplocks as opposed to conversions, with browned octagonal damascus 9 3/4in. scratch-rifled barrels, signed on the top-flats 'JOHN MANTON & SON, DOVER STREET', applied blade fore-sights, standing notch rear-sights, engraved colour-hardened breech-blocks and fully engraved top-tangs, platinum plugs, colour hardened bar-action locks signed 'JOHN MANTON & SON, PATENT' with border and scroll engraving, sliding safes behind the engraved dolphin-headed hammers, clipped tails, polished walnut half-stocks with chequered bag-shaped butts, engraved blued iron butt-caps, guarded single-set triggers and brass tipped mahogany ramrods, much apparently original colour and finish remaining to both pistols, complete with their original mahogany case with hook and lock closure, compartmented and lined in green baize, original parchment trade-label inside lid and containing a loading mallet, cap-tin, scissors mould, an earlier three-way flask and a later oil bottle, key absent
