28in. replacement nitro chopperlump barrels (by the makers in 1995), the rib engraved 'JOHN DICKSON & SON. 21. FREDERICK STREET. EDINBURGH', 2 3/4in. chambers, bored approx. imp. cyl. and 1/2 choke, treble-grip Dickson patent triggerplate action incorporating patents 9399 and 10621 of 1887, use number 1091, with uncharacteristic square body and decorative sideplates, carved stylised acanthus leaf fences, automatic safety with gold-inlaid 'SAFE' detail, best fine bouquet and scroll engraving, brushed finish, 15in. figured replacement stock including horn buttplate, weight 6lb. 12oz., in its makers brass-cornered oak and leather case with provision for both sets of barrels
Provenance: The makers have kindly confirmed that this gun was completed in December 1903 for William Moncrieffe. The records state that it was a 'best square action gun', and the engraving would have been undertaken by Sumner
