for 1954, 26in. replacement nitro barrels, the ribs engraved 'BOSS & CO. 13-14 CORK STREET. LONDON. W.1.', and gold-inlaid 'FOR 2IN. CASE ONLY' and '1' and '2' at the breech ends, 2in. chambers, bored approx. imp. cyl. and 1/4 choke, wall thicknesses circa 15 / 16 (likely as made), slim fenced actions, toplevers gold-inlaid '1' and '2', automatic safeties with gold-inlaid 'SAFE' details, acanthus scroll engraving with floral bouquets, retaining very slight traces of colour-hardening, 14 5/8in. figured stocks including 7/8in. rubber recoil pads, weight 5lb. 10oz., in their lightweight leather motor case
Provenance: Research by a previous owner suggests that the guns were built and placed in stock by Hellis in August 1954 and that they were purchased by The Duchess of Devonshire
