AN EARLY 14-BORE FLINTLOCK SPORTING GUN SIGNED PROBIN, no visible serial number,
circa 1770 and almost certainly by Charles Probin of Sand Street, Birmingham, with probably shortened round 30 3/4in. triple staged iron barrel, plain top-tang with shallow sighting groove, borderline engraved curved and rounded lock with pointed tail and signed 'PROBIN' below the bridle-less pan (signature faint), swan-necked cock, handrail full-stock (possibly teak) with brass furniture, pierced and moulded side-plate and period wood ramrod
