A FINE CASED 60-BORE PERCUSSION DOUBLE-BARRELLED TWO-GROOVE PEA-RIFLE BY PURDEY, LONDON, serial no. 4899,
for 1853, with laminated 29in. barrels, the flat raised top-rib signed 'J. PURDEY 314 1/2 OXFORD STREET, LONDON', long bead fore-sight, rear-sight of a short folding ladder with shallow fixed notch and additional three folding leaves, colour hardened breech-blocks with scroll engraving to the rib-end and platinum line engraved vents, fully borderline and scroll engraved top-tang, colour hardened bar-action locks signed 'PURDEY' below the sliding safes, drum based dolphin headed hammers, birdseye maple half-stock chequered at the wrist and fore-end, iron furniture with chequered spur to the lower tang and brass mounted mahogany ramrod, the whole expertly refinished to an extremely high standard and in its maker's mahogany case, lined and compartmented in green baize and including two matching number moulds and a wad-punch, sizing die, powder-flask, powder tin, cap-tin and other sundry accessories, Purdey parchment label with inked charge details inside lid
