A SUBSTANTIAL 7-BORE PERCUSSION FOWLING PIECE SIGNED HODGSON, no visible serial number,
circa 1855, with octagonal to sixteen-sided to round 42 1/2in. barrel (some external pitting), moulded band at the intersection, bead fore-sight, the top-flat at breech signed 'HODGSON' within a field of scrolls, twin platinum lines at breech, moulded and fenced replacement nipple, a duck engraved to the top of breech-block, acanthus leaf engraved long top-tang, acanthus leaf engraved lock signed 'HODGSON', engraved hammer, walnut half-stock with coarse chequering at wrist, iron furniture including scrolled and raised lower tang (small inlet repair to wood around front finial), two barrel keys (the white metal oval escutcheons absent from the front example), horn fore-end tip and heavy brass tipped wood ramrod, weight approximately 12lb.
