A 12-BORE 1863 PATENT 'NO.2 PATTERN' PULL-BACK TOPLEVER SINGLE-BARRELLED HAMMERGUN, serial no. 1901,
for 1870, 30in. black powder only bold damascus barrel with short sight flat, engraved 'THOMAS HORSLEY MAKER YORK PATENT 2410 & 1138', 2 1/2in. chamber, bored approx. true cyl., heavily pitted internally, action incorporating Horsley patent 'top-slide' toplever, patent no. 2410 of 1st October 1863, the use number not engraved (as is typical), the lever with 'PATENT 2410', the top of the standing breech with Horsley second pattern loaded indicator, with angled shutter and gold-inlaid 'LOADED' indicator, patent no. 710 of 2nd March 1868, the action fence with a dovetailed insert (possibly from the referred to patent 1138 retracting striker mechanism having been removed - or even not initially fitted), Stanton (joint patents) rebounding back-action lock by A. Gardener, grip safety engraved 'PATENT SAFETY', border and bold acanthus scroll engraving, 13 7/8in. figured stock including steel buttplate, the fore-end with serial numbered crosspin release and horn finial with unusual relief carved shell motif, weight 5lb. 8oz.

Other Notes: Sold with a London Proof House Certificate of unprovability - expressly stating the gun is not suitable for use and should not be fired. Certificate No. 1059 dated 18th November 1998
