A SCARCE 12-BORE SIDELEVER VARIANT 1881 PATENT TRIGGERPLATE-ACTION HAMMERLESS NON-EJECTOR, serial no. 2750,
for 1883, 29 7/8in. black powder only bold damascus barrels, the rib engraved 'THOMAS HORSLEY & SON MAKERS YORK' (refreshed), 2 1/2in. chambers, bored approx. full and 3/4 choke, heavily pitted internally, J. Lang patent triggerplate action, patent no. 4916 of 9th November 1881, carved serpentine fences, elongated top strap with automatic lever safety with gold-inlaid 'SAFE' detail, removable striker discs, the action, decorative sideplates and furniture engraved with acanthus scrollwork with floral motifs, the sides with 'T. HORSLEY & SON' in scrolling banners, brushed bright finish overall, 13 3/4in. figured stock (cracked at hand) with steel heel and toe-plates, fore-end with grip-catch release lever, weight 6lb. 9oz.

Literature: The gun features in David J. Baker's book 'Thomas Horsley - Gunmaker of York', page 130. The gun is the subject of some speculation as to how the gun fits into the Horsley story, being of Lang's patent (but not credited on the gun with a patent specification or use number) and there is no information as to whether it was a 'one off', a special order or worked out as simply too expensive to warrant further examples being produced
