No.4774 original 30in. nitro reproved blacked damascus barrels, rib engraved 'STEPHEN GRANT 67A ST. JAMES'S STREET. LONDON.', 2 1/2in. chambers, bored approx.1/2 choke in both;
No.4774 extra 28in. sleeved steel to damascus nitro barrels, rib engraved 'SLEEVED BY E.C. ASHTHOPRE (sic) SEVERN STOKE. WORC'S.', 2 3/4in. chambers, bored approx. imp. cyl. and 1/2 choke;
No. 5125 with 28in. sleeved steel to damascus nitro barrels, retaining original rib engraved 'STEPHEN GRANT 67A ST. JAMES'S STREET. LONDON. 2.', 2 1/2in. chambers, bored approx. 1/4 and full choke;
H. Phillips patent sidelever lever-cocking actions, patent no. 4809 of 1879, carved fences, automatic safeties with gold-inlaid 'SAFE' details, topstraps engraved 'PATENT', actions engraved 'STEPHEN GRANT' and engraved with fine scrollwork, brushed bright and reblued overall, 14 7/8in. highly-figured stock (No. 4774) and 14 5/8in. figured stock (No.5125), weight 6lb. 12oz. (No. 4774) and 6lb. 8oz. (No. 5125), in a good John Dickson & Son brass-cornered oak and leather case.
The makers have kindly confirmed that gun No. 4774 was completed in 1880 and that gun No. 5125 was completed in 1882 for the Marquis of Carmarthen
