A RARE HUNGARIAN SHASQUA,
the blade late 16th / early 17th century, the hilt and engraved decoration late 18th century, with 29 1/4in. re-profiled, shortened single-edged curved blade with double-edged point (minor holing at tip), broad double fullers to both sides with later decoration depicting the Arms of St Stephen (the Hungarian Royal Arms), the crown of St Stephen, a Hungarian Cross, patriotic inscriptions (feint) and the figure of a mounted Hussar, (some wear to decoration, staining and patches of mild pitting to blade), horn grip scales of characteristic form, TOGETHER WITH a later hide-covered scabbard with two suspension loops (one ring missing)
