circa 1835, with shortened 27 1/4in. browned two-stage barrel, the top-flat signed 'GAUVAIN 47 BOULEVART DU MONT PARNASSE A PARIS', scroll engraved top-tang and patent breech-end, platinum engraved vent, border and scroll engraved bar-action lock signed 'GAUVAIN A PARIS' (traces of colour), scroll engraved hammer (detached but present), walnut half-stock chequered at the wrist, iron heel-plate, scroll engraved trigger-guard bow, horn fore-end cap and original (shortened ) ramrod
