dated for 1863, with re-blued 24 1/2in. barrel, folding brass globe fore-sight, adjustable ladder rear-sight, later scroll engraving to the knoxform, re-coloured lift-up breech-block dated 1870 with later scroll engraving, folding vernier peep-sight mounted behind the top-tang, re-engraved re-coloured lock signed 'SPRINGFIELD' together with a US martial eagle device and the date, re-chequered and re-finished walnut half-stock, iron heel-plate with later engraved heel and numbered '18' over '7' together with 'US', applied chequered walnut pistol-grip piece with white-wood pommel, later scroll engraving to the trigger-guard bow, later engraved barrel-band and ebony fore-end tip, traces of US Martial cartouches to woodwork
