French, circa converted from flintlock circa 1856, with round tapering iron 8in. barrel, teat fore-sight, standing notch rear-sight, the octagonal breech-section stamped 'Cdo 17.6 AN', together with 'M1856', the elongated top-tang stamped 'MLE 1822', plain military-style lock and hammer signed 'MFC IMP AL DE MUTZIG', plain wood half-stock with iron back-strap and brass furniture, brass nose cap and complete with its original cup-ended iron ramrod
