circa 1870, built to patent 2488 of 3rd september 1867, with brushed bright 29 1/2in. barrels, the top-rib re-engraved 'W.R. PAPE NEWCASTLE ON TYNE, WINNER OF THE LONDON GUN TRIALS IN 1858, 1859 & 1866', plain borderline engraved action, border engraved bar-action locks signed 'W.R. PAPE', engraved hammers, chequered walnut straight-hand butt-stock with gold shield-shaped escutcheon to wrist, iron toe and heel-plates, patent push forwards side-lever opening and chequered splinter fore-end (action and locks stained)
