A FINE CASED 18-BORE PERCUSSION DOUBLE-BARRELLED RIFLE FOR BELTED-BALL, serial no. 708,
circa 1862, with browned twist-iron 30in. barrels, the top-rib signed 'WILLIAM MOORE MAKER TO HIS LATE MAJESTY, 78 EDGEWARE ROAD LONDON', dove-tailed bead fore-sight, dove-tailed standing notch rear-sight, scroll engraved breech-end with platinum line and vents, flat border and scroll engraved locks signed 'WILLIAM MOORE' (traces of colour), blued sliding safes forwards of the scroll engraved hammers (inlet repairs for the original behind hammer safes, one hammer an expert replacement), walnut chequered half-stock, iron circular patch-box inlet to right hand side of butt engraved with a standing stag within an engraved border, re-blued iron heel-plate, the triple staged heel-spur engraved with scrolls and a further standing stag, raised tear-drop cheek-piece to left hand side of butt, blued trigger-guard tang with chequered pistol-grip spur, engraved trigger-guard bow featuring a seated stag, heavy-duty brass-tipped mahogany ram-rod, silver oval escutcheon with a double crest of a Lion Rampant with sword and a mounted Armoured Knight, fitted for sling (missing) COMPLETE WITH its English market oak storage case, brass corners and escutcheon to lid, the interior lined in green baize, parchment trade label to inner lid printed in blue and bearing the legend 'GUN MANUFACTURER TO H.R.H PRINCE ALBERT' and containing a good number of period accessories original to this gun including the matching numbered bullet-mould, a white-metal mounted 'G. HAWKSLEY' powder flask, circular oil bottle, turn screw and nipple key together with an extension handle for the ram-rod, nipple-pot and later cleaning rod
