A CASED 16-BORE PERCUSSION DOUBLE-BARRELLED SPORTING GUN, serial no. 163,
circa 1830, possibly converted from flint, with re-browned variegated ribbon and rose damascus 32 1/4in. barrels, the top-rib signed in gold gothic script 'H. BALES, IPSWICH', bead fore-sight, border and scroll engraved breech with platinum plugs, scroll engraved top-tang with brass inlets to the head of stock, flat, slightly curved border and scroll engraved locks signed 'H. BALES, IPSWICH', walnut straight-hand half-stock chequered at the wrist, iron heel-plate with border engraving and scroll-engraved heel-spur, border and scroll engraved trigger-guard bow with a central mask of a tiger, white-metal ram-rod throat and original brass mounted mahogany ram-rod, TOGETHER WITH a period stained oak guncase re-lined in green baize and containing a number of period accessories including a leather bodied powder flask signed 'SYKES PATENT EXTRA QUALITY'
