A CASED 20-BORE PERCUSSION SINGLE-BARRELLED SPORTING RIFLE, serial no. 3222,
circa 1835, with re-browned damascus 30in. octagonal barrel rifled with two grooves for a 'winged' bullet, the top-flat with renewed signature 'JOSEPH EGG & SONS, LONDON', dove-tailed bead fore-sight, scroll engraved breech with platinum vent, scroll engraved top-tang with a central engraving of a stag's head, flat, slightly curved border and scroll engraved lock signed 'JOSEPH EGG, LONDON' (caustically cleaned, some pitting), walnut straight-hand half-stock chequered at the wrist, iron heel-plate with scroll-engraved heel-spur also featuring an engraved standing stag, serial number re-engraved to the trigger-guard tang, horn fore-end cap and original brass mounted mahogany ram-rod, TOGETHER WITH a period leather covered oak guncase re-lined in green baize, reproduction Joseph Egg trade label to inside of lid and containing a number of period accessories including a leather covered powder flask signed 'HAWKSLEY'
