A FINE 15-BORE PERCUSSION SINGLE-SHOT SPORTING RIFLE, serial no. 699,
circa 1860, with browned octagonal 27in. twist barrel, the top flat signed 'ROSS EDINBURGH' in script with an engraved border, bead fore-sight, dove-tailed rear-sight with two folding and one standing leaf, the breech-end engraved with a stags head and inlet with a platinum line, border and foliate engraved elongated top tang, the forwards section inhabited by a lion, back-action lock signed 'ROSS' beneath the hammer and engraved with a leopard in a woodland setting, the hammer engraved in the style of a sea monster, walnut half-stock chequered at the wrist, raised tear-drop cheek-piece on the left hand side, iron heel-plate engraved with a tiger on the top-spur, trigger-guard tang with pistol-grip spur, a further leopard engraved to the bow, pineapple finial, under-barrel rib with applied thimbles and retaining the original heavy-duty mushroom-headed ram-rod
