A GOOD CASED PAIR OF 28-BORE PERCUSSION OFFICERS PISTOLS, no visible serial numbers,
circa 1845, with expertly re-browned 9in. octagonal damascus barrels, the top-flats signed 'BOSTON' within an engraved border, dove-tailed nickel blade fore-sights, re-colour hardened breech blocks with twin gold lines and scroll engraving, scroll engraved top-tangs with standing rear-sights, flat, slightly curved border line and scroll engraved locks signed 'TOWL' (much original colour remaining), sliding safes behind the scroll engraved hammers, walnut half-stocks with chequered bag-shaped butts, clipped-corner rectangular vacant white-metal escutcheons to the wrists, border and scroll engraved blued trigger-guard bows (much original finish), set triggers, white metal take-down wedge escutcheons and fore-end cap, damascus under-barrel ribs with single thimbles (one detached, one replaced) and steel mounted ebony ramrods TOGETHER WITH a period, probably original to the guns mahogany case with banded corners and flush-fitting rectangular handle within a flared escutcheon to the outer lid, the interior re-lined and compartmented in blue velvet and complete with a number of period accessories including a shell-design copper three-way flask, a mahogany loading rod and a scissors ball mould (some compartments loose)

Other Notes: The gunmaker Joseph Towl was listed at Bridge Street, Boston, Lincolnshire between 1834 and 1868
