Provenance: The vendor has kindly supplied us with the following information:

"My grandfather H.R. Clarke, then a captain in a machine gun company on the western front, liberated the shotgun in 1915, was then gassed and both returned to England for a long convalescence. He was not a real shooting man so the gun saw little service until the Home Guard, in Chepstow, under the then Major H.R. CLarke, was formed in the Second World War and it became part of their armoury prior to proper military weapons being available. One might say it swapped sides. It came into my possession in the late 60s and with which I enjoyed many years happy shooting. I trust the lucky purchaser has the same pleasure."
