A 32-BORE WHEEL-LOCK HUNTING RIFLE FOR RESTORATION, no visible serial number,
late 17th to early 18th century, with highly swamped 31 1/2in. deeply rifled octagonal barrel signed 'BALTHASER ZELLNER on the top-flat near the breech, the words separated by a deeply stamped makers crest, brass dove-tailed bead fore-sight, dove-tailed standing notch rear-sight with additional folding leaf, rectangular solid top-tang, long square-tailed lockplate signed 'G.A. MANN'? engraved with a hunter on horseback together with another standing and hunting dogs attacking a stag, the wheel-plate engraved with scrolls, the long-tailed hammer engraved with clouds and flames inhabited by mythical beasts surrounding a stag, the bridle engraved with a serpent and a hare, angular cross-section full-stock carved along the ramrod channel, sliding wood patchbox lid to butt, floral and geometric shaped horn and mother of pearl inlays to stock, finger-grooved iron trigger-guard and replacement ramrod (multiple losses to inlayed decoration, trigger mechanism and some lock-parts missing, small losses to woodwork)
