A 22-BORE PERCUSSION SINGLE-BARRELLED SPORTING GUN, no visible serial number,
first quarter of the 19th century, possibly converted from flintlock with 30in. triple-stage twist barrel signed in silver on the top-flat 'JOSEPH MANTON HANNOVER SQUARE LONDON', the underside of breech stamped 'FULLERD', bead fore-sight, inlaid poincon to the squared patent breech stamped in relief 'MANTON & SONS LONDON', border and scroll engraved slightly curved lock signed 'JOSEPH MANTON' and featuring a central engraving of a hunting dog, Manton style hammer with sliding safe behind, walnut half-stock finely chequered at the wrist (broken through and crudely repaired with iron plates in antiquity), long-spurred iron heel-plate, border and scroll engraved trigger-guard, and original ebony ramrod (iron surfaces darkly stained, fore-end tip missing)
