A JAPANESE 'TANTO',
the straight 12in. blade circa 1700 and reduced from a sword (re-polished, some inclusions visible), signed tang drilled through by two 'mekugiana', plated copper 'habaki', flatterned oval iron 'tsuba' finely inlaid with a brass crayfish to both sides, Edo period mounts including oceanic themed gold inlayed 'fuchi' and 'kashira', crayfish 'menuki' and cotton binding, the saya covered with matt black laquer carved with waves and inlaid with gold dots (split, losses to laquer), missing the 'kurigata' and complete with a derelict 'kogai'
