A RARE, EARLY 12-BORE JEFFRIES 1874 PATENT 12-BORE 'DOUBLE LUMP' PUSH-FORWARD UNDERLEVER SLIDING-BOLT SNAP-ACTION HAMMERGUN, serial no. 20117,
29 3/4in. nitro reproved bold damascus barrels (original proofmarks pre 1875, London), rib engraved 'W. & C. SCOTT & SON. MAKERS. 106 CASTLE STREET. REGENT CIRCUS. LONDON.' 2 1/2in. chambers, bored approx. true cyl. in both, right tube marked 'F.C.' surmounted by a crown and 'B', G. Jeffries patent double-lump snap-action, patent no. 3442 of 8th October 1874, with early variant extended rear lumps acting on the sliding bolt via vertical cams set in slots in the standing breech, short travel snap underlever, carved percussion fences, rebounding sidelocks, action flat with Jeffries patent details and W. & C. Scott makers mark, fine border and acanthus scroll engraving, retaining traces of original colour-hardening, triggerguard tang with W. & C. Scott makers mark, the stock further marked with the F.C. Crown and B mark, 14 1/2in. highly-figured stock including horn buttplate, fore-end with Scott provisional patent release lever, patent no. 712 of 25th February 1874, weight 7lb. 4oz.
