American, circa 1840 and typical of the work of New England gunsmiths, with two-stage 4in. barrel (brushed bright), blade fore-sight, standing notch rear-sight to the rear of the engraved top-strap, one-piece pointed maple grip with brass grip-straps and fore-end plate, iron exposed trigger and under-hammer
