25in. nitro barrel, engraved in gothic script 'JOHN RIGBY & CO. 43, SACKVILLE ST. LONDON.', with open sights and two folding leaf sights marked for 100, 300 and 400 yards and ramp-mounted bead fore-sight, the breech end engraved 'SIGHTED FOR RIGBY'S SPECIAL HIGH VELOCITY .275 BORE CARTRIDGE POINTED BULLET 140GRS', receiver (with thumb cutout) mounted with a Carl Zeiss Zielvier telescopic sight in quickly detachable mounts, the tube engraved 'J. RIGBY & CO. 43, SACKVILLE ST. LONDON. W.', the forward ring mount engraved with the serial number, Mauser number 1084, hinged floorplate with military style release, semi-pistolgrip stock (repair to left side) with sling eyes, 14 7/8in. pull including steel buttplate, in a full length canvas and leather case with Stephen Grant & Joseph Lang Ltd. trade label, some accessories, sighting targets and with provision for telescopic sight in its leather case

Provenance: The vendor has kindly informed us that the rifle was made in 1934 for Lord Breadalbane.

Lieutenant-Colonel Charles William Campbell, 9th Earl of Breadalbane and Holland MC, DL, JP (1889 - 1959) succeeded to the Earldom in 1923 at the age of 34.

He held the rank of Major in the Royal Horse Artillery and the Royal Field Artillery and Lieutenant Colonel in the Argyle and Sutherland Highlanders. During the First World War he was awarded the Military Cross.
In 1924 he was elected as one of sixteen Scottish Representative Peers to sit in the House of Lords, a position he held until 1958. He was a Justice of the Peace for Argyll and Perthshire, a member of H.M. Honourable Corps of Gentleman at Arms (1935-58) and a Member of the Queen's Bodyguard for Scotland (The Royal Company of Archers) between 1937 and 1958.
