circa 1856, with semi octagonal blued 3 5.8in. barrel, the narrower top-flat signed MADE BY WM. TRANTER FOR A.B. GRISWOLD & CO. NEW ORLEANS', barleycorn fore-sight, sighting notch to the rear of the border engraved top-strap, engraved band to muzzle, borderline and scroll engraved solid frame, borderline engraved five-shot cylinder with rope engraved band to the leading edge, inverted 'Y' shape safe-spring, spurred hammer, chequered walnut one-piece grip, engraved trigger-guard bow with extended trigger beneath signed 'PATENT', border and scroll engraved captive rammer marked 'TRANTER'S PATENT' mounted to the left side of barrel, the whole retaining strong traces of finish; TOGETHER WITH an English market darkly stained oak storage case, lined in dark green baize and containing a number of period accessories including a double cavity Tranter's Patent bullet mould, a small Dixon flask, a turnscrew, oil bottle, cap-tin, bullets and lubricating compound
