third model, manufactured 1884, with a blued round 30in. barrel, block and blade fore-sight, folding ladder rear-sight, the top signed 'WINCHESTER REPEATING ARMS, NEW HAVEN, CT KINGS IMPROVEMENT PATENTED MARCH 29 1866, OCTOBER 16 1860', plain blued receiver with sliding dust-cover, top-tang marked 'MODEL 1873', walnut straight hand butt-stock, iron semi-crescent butt-plate with central trap-door containing the original take-down cleaning rod, colour-hardened finger-lever, walnut three-quarter fore-end, three iron barrel-bands and full-length magazine tube, the whole retaining much original finish
