THE STOCK, ACTION AND FORE-END ONLY OF A JOSEPH NEEDHAM 12-BORE 1862 PATENT SIDELEVER SINGLE-BOLT SNAP-ACTION SELF HALF-COCKING BAR-IN-WOOD HAMMERGUN, serial no. 1357, circa 1864, Needham patent rotating single bolt sidelever patent, patent no. 1544 of 1862, use number 711 (the first '1' overstamped with a small '3'), the fences with external cams half-cocking the hammers as the sidelever is pushed down, slim fences and side bolsters, non-rebounding sidelocks with high-spurred hare's-ear hammers of pinfire form (painted black, both repaired), border and bold acanthus scroll engraving with game scene vignettes,14 5/8in. stock (light damage towards knuckle) with steel heel and toe plates, in a leather case with Needham trade label
