A 40-BORE FLINTLOCK TAP-ACTION DOUBLE-BARRELLED OVER-UNDER TRAVELLING PISTOL, no visible serial number,
circa 1783, with round turn-off 2 1/2in. barrels (frozen), false rifling at the muzzles, plain unadorned slab-sided action, the left side signed in script 'KETLAND & CO.', plain hinged tap, central hammer, the frizzen with detent retainer and safety operated by the trigger-guard bow, walnut bag-shaped butt with swollen pommel capped with a plain silver butt-cap with rear tail Birmingham hallmarked for 1783, large silver oval escutcheon engraved with a 'WC' monogram above the place name 'ROBERTTOWN', guarded trigger and London proofs
