A 20-BORE FLINTLOCK DUELLING-PISTOL, no visible serial number,
circa 1795, with slightly swamped octagonal 9in. barrel, the top-flat signed in a border 'P. WHITNEY, CORK', silver bead fore-sight on a starburst ground, standing notch rear-sight to the breech, private proofs, border engraved top-tang, bevel-edged step-tailed lock signed 'P. WHITNEY' forwards of the hammer, roller bearing to the frizzen spring, walnut full-stock with slab-sided butt, shell carved apron around the top-tang and oval escutcheon to wrist, brass trigger-guard with acorn finial, rear side-nail cup with integral escutcheon beneath, brass ramrod pipes and replacement ramrod

Other Notes: Of the three gunmakers named Whitney operating in Cork, this is almost certainly the work of Paul Whitney who died in 1821
