A CASED 16-BORE PERCUSSION DOUBLE-BARRELLED SPORTING-GUN FOR RENOVATION, serial no. 5895,
for 1812, and converted by Manton to percussion from flint, with twist-iron 32in. barrels, the top-rib signed 'JOSEPH MANTON'S NEW IMPROVEMENTS BY HIS MAJESTY'S PATENT', bead fore-sight, one side-bolster missing at breech-end, platinum plugs, border and trophy engraved bar-action locks signed 'JOSEPH MANTON LONDON', clipped tails, trophies engraved to the hammer-sides, walnut half-stock chequered at the wrist (original polish badly crazed), trophy engraved blued iron furniture and original brass mounted ramrod, the whole extremely dirty and darkly stained with traces of original finish beneath; COMPLETE WITH a slightly later mahogany storage case, compartmented in green baize (mothed in places) and containing two period corroded powder flasks and an empty leather nipple-wallet, label removed from inside lid
