A PAIR OF 12-BORE 'B QUALITY' SELF-OPENING SIDELOCK EJECTORS, serial no. 16149 / 50,
26in. replacement nitro barrels (No.1 chopperlump, by the makers in 1938 and with makers details on the rib, No.2 dovetailed, by another in 1959 with unsigned rib), 2 1/2in. chambers, bored approx. true cyl. and imp. cyl. (No.1), left wall at 18, bored approx. 1/4 and 3/4 choke (No.2), toplevers engraved '1' and '2', removable striker discs, automatic safeties with gold-inlaid 'SAFE' details, arrow cocking-indicators, fine acanthus scroll engraving, retaining very slight traces of colour-hardening, 14 1/2in. figured stocks (slight sweep at combs) including 1in. rubber recoil pads, repair to right overhorn gun No.2, weight 6lb. 6oz. (No.1) and 5lb. 15oz. (No.2), in a brass-cornered leather case with applied Purdey trade labels

Provenance: The makers have kindly confirmed that the guns were completed on the 17th August 1899 with 30in. barrels for R. Popkiss. The records show that in 1938 the barrels for gun No. 16150 were shortened and lightened and that new barrels were fitted to gun No. 16149
