A .52 CAL PERCUSSION SINGLE-SHOT BREECH-LOADING CARBINE, MODEL 'UNION RIFLE', serial no. 1837,
early type circa 1863, with 20in. octagonal to round barrel, applied fore-sight, ladder rear-sight, squared receiver marked 'UNION RIFLE' on the right, plain back-action lock with traces of maker's details and with large elongated hammer, walnut butt-stock, iron crescent heel-plate and 'grapevine' under-lever, no provision for fore-end (stock with old repair at wrist, cracked and repaired lower tang)
