Product Details

A .690 FLINTLOCK SERVICE-PISTOL, MODEL 'BELGIAN CONVERSION OF THE M1851 AUSTRIAN AUGUSTIN', serial no. 6,
circa 1858, with 9 3/4in. tapering iron barrel, foresight integral with the twin-band brass nose-cap, no provision for rear-sight, solid top-tang, flat bevel-edged lock with brass pan and traces of an eagle stamp at tail, walnut full-stock with bag-shaped butt, brass furniture, the butt-cap with rear-mounted lanyard swivel and later provision for ramrod (ramrod missing)

Other Notes: Belgium bought up these Austrian pistol en-masse during the latter part of the 1850's, removed the peculiar to Austria Augustin cap system and converted them to flintlock for sale to less developed countries. Ironically, many were to end up being used during the American Civil War.
