circa 1795, with round iron turn-off 2in. barrel, starred muzzle, the left hand side mounted with a triangular cross-section sprung bayonet, the left hand side of breech signed in script 'W. LAING', the right side 'EDINBURGH (concealed by bayonet), engraved brass central hammer action with iron bayonet release catch mounted to the right hand side, engraved iron central hammer, sliding safe to the top-tang, chequered bag-shaped butt with oval escutcheon to the wrist and engraved white-metal butt-cap to heel, concealed automatic trigger
