circa 1840, with deeply rifled 4 1/2in. barrels signed on the flat tops 'WILLIAMS & POWELL, LIVERPOOL', bead fore-sight, standing notch rear-sight, gold lines at breech, rounded side-hammer scroll engraved boxlock actions with carved percussion fences, finely chequered bag-shaped walnut butts with engraved iron domed butt-caps, central cap-traps, double triggers with engraved guards, captive iron under-barrel ramrods, the pair with traces of finish below surface corrosion (three hammer screws and one action screw absent)
