A GOOD CASED 42-BORE PERCUSSION RECIPROCATING TRANSITIONAL REVOLVER, serial no. 9842,
circa 1853, with sighted octagonal 6in. barrel signed on the top-flat 'PARKER FIELD & SON 233 HIGH HOLBORN LONDON' (sic), engraved band at muzzle, plunge rammer with folding scroll engraved assist mounted to the right side of barrel and signed 'REGIS'D JUNE 11TH 1852 BY PARKER FIELD & SONS' to the body with engraved with bands to each end, wedge barrel fastener, plain London proved reciprocating cylinder, scroll engraved action with radiused edges and long-spurred off-set hammer, finely chequered walnut grip, guarded single-action trigger and domed trap for caps in the heel, complete with its period mahogany maker's storage case with parchment trade-label inside lid, the tray lined and compartmented in green baize and complete with a scarce cylindrical-bodied flask, E.M. Reilly cap tin, oil bottle, scissors mould, special nipple-key with pricker, turn-screw and loading or cleaning rod with additional cleaning heads and accompanied with notes on the revolver (see below)

Other Notes: As well as hand written notes describing this type of revolver mechanism and the original auction description, a letter, believed from the manufacturer (or a former employee of the manufacturer) and dated December 8th 1908 accompanies this lot and states the cost of this revolver new was £8.8.0
