A 20-BORE PERCUSSION DOUBLE-BARRELLED SPORTING-GUN, serial no. 331,
for 1791 with later conversion via drum and nipple to percussion, possibly by the maker, 31 7/9in. barrels (muzzles re-dressed), white-metal boat-shaped fore-sight, breech-blocks inlet with gold poincons embossed 'JOSEPH MANTON, PATENT' (one poincon incomplete), square socketed drums with engraved end-faces (nipples absent from both), fully engraved top-tang with broad sunken sighting groove, curved flat bevel-edged locks retaining vestiges of the pan flash-guards and signed 'JOSEPH MANTON, LONDON, stepped tails, scroll engraved dolphin headed hammers with central depictions of wading birds, walnut half-stock chequered at the wrist, iron furniture including raised scrolled grip lower tang, white metal barrel key escutcheons and possible brass tipped mahogany ramrod, darkly stained throughout
