A FINE BRITISH NAVAL ENSIGN'S OR LEVEE'S SWORD WITH BLUE & GILT BLADE,
circa 1795-1800, with straight double-edged 27in. spear-point blade, the first half with strong traces of blue and gilt etched decoration (staining and shallow pitting throughout), carved brass 'P' shaped knucklebow with integral single rolled quillion cross-guard, two broad langets relief carved with borders around crowns over fouled anchors, florally carved collar to the carved ivory grip, the grip itself with a lower chequered panel below a shell device below a raised band (small filled repair) and brass lionshead pommel with realistic carved mane backstrap and loose ring for knot, complete with its brass mounted leather scabbard, the throat with engraved panel signed 'WEBB MANUFACTURER, 37 PICCADILLY LONDON', strong traced of gilt finish to brasswork throughout except to replacement drag
